CrossFit Endurance/Pose Methodâ„¢ Running Technique
If you are an endurance athlete we can help you. As Dr. Nicholas Romanov says, "The basis of endurance is speed." Many endurance athletes focus too much on volume, and too little developing technique, speed, & strength. Presently we are the only gym in Atlanta with trainers licensed to teach Pose Method, the running technique which forms the basis of CrossFit Endurance. 2 trainers are licensed in Pose Method, and 6 have CrossFit Endurance certifications.
Two programs are offered:
Running Clinic: A 6 session clinic, meeting once a week for 6 weeks. $200 for non-membersI. $50 for members. More info HERE.
Individual training in Pose Method is available by appointment, email info@crossfitatlanta.com for more information.
Yoga
Mandy Wright offer yoga classes Wed & Sat. Free to Monthly Unlimited members, 1 visit charge to punch card members, $20 to drop ins. Private sessions also available. Our O lifters and others are finding that Yoga helps a lot!
Sports Specific Training
We don't do sports specific training for the team sports. In fact, with some exceptions, we think it's a rip off when a fitness gym or trainer claims to do sports specific training. CrossFit can and does make better athletes for almost every conceivable sport, but it does so by focusing on the essential foundations for sports performance: core strength, explosive hip extension, and high levels of work capacity in all metabolic pathways. A good foundation is not sport specific, and it is especially important for young athletes to focus on the foundation.
Athletes from wildly divergent specialties are finding that CrossFit makes them better at their sport. Even the best athletes have chinks in their armor that can be improved with CrossFit. These include members of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team, the Florida Marlins baseball team, world class ice dancers, a multitude of MMA fighters, and many individuals from a wide variety of sport ranging from Olympic swimmers, skiers, rowers, to professional golf, basketball and football players. We believe that sports specific training should focus on skills specific to the sport. Our expertise is in building the foundation, we leave the skills training to people more expert in those areas.
With that in mind, we do train teams, and we can teach sports coaches how to integrate CrossFit training into their practice sessions. Email us at info@crossfitatlanta.com.
CrossFit Games Training
As CrossFit has grown it has become "The Sport of Fitness" and there have arisen more and more competitions whose premise is testing fitness in accord with CrossFit's definition of fitness: increased work capacity over broad time and modal domains. The pinnacle of this is The CrossFit Games. CrossFit Atlanta have a rather intense group whose training is aimed at preparing for and competing in these competitions. And they do pretty good. We have had competitors in every Games since 2008. In 2010 seven CF ATL athletes qualified as individuals for the Southeast Regionals at the Georgia Sectionals, including 1st and 2nd for both men & women. At the Southeast Regionals our members and trainers took 3rd and 8th in the men, tied for 4th in the women, and took 4th in the team event. At the 2010 CrossFit Games, the CFATL team placed 8th in the world. If you want, you can watch the final team event here, in which CFATL placed 1st. [choose the video clip for 18-Jul-2010 10:00-11:00, and move the time slider to 42 minutes] In 2011 2 individuals and the team qualified for Regionals. Leah Polaski finished 1st at the Southeast Regionals and competed in the Games. The team again finished 4th. Games competitors from other gyms often train with us, especially in Olympic lifting.
