Paleo Challenge Meeting Tonight!
The "Paleo Challenge" committee, (Jonathan, Peter, and Bethanie), are working out the details. Currently the plan is to "buy in" with $. The winner will win all the $ in the pot, and a month's membership. Our first informational meeting will be this Tuesday January 26th from 6-7:30 pm. This time includes the meeting and a short workout in the place of Bethanie's 6 PM class. If you can't make it Thursday at 6pm we will have the same meeting on Saturday, January 30th at 11:30 am.
This is for all members regardless of where you are with your diet!! This meeting will cover why good nutrition is ESSENTIAL, not just to weight loss, but also to mental and athletic performance and overall health. We'll talk about why we prefer the Paleo/Zone approach, and devise a plan of action for our "Paleo Challenge" to begin in February.

GT Rugby got their 2010 season off to a successful start by defeating traditional rivals UGA 17-5 in Athens Saturday.

Wall-ball, 20 pound ball, 10 ft target (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull, 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump, 20" box (Reps)
Push-press, 75 pounds (Reps)
Row (Calories)
In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute.The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. On call of "rotate", the athletes must move to next station immediately for best score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

Leah P. sets a new gym record for Fran!
With a continuously running clock, squat for 60 seconds. Subtract the number of squats completed from 60, and do that many pull-ups in minute two. In minute three, squat again, subtracting the number completed from 60. Do that number of push-ups in minute four. Minute five is squatting again, and minute six pull-ups.
The pattern is squats, pull-ups, squats, push-ups, squats, pull-ups, etc. The goal is to stay within the workout's formula for as long as possible.
Don't do more than 60 squats in any round.
In any case, stay moving for at least 12 minutes.
Big FGB Party Tomorrow! The fun starts at 10 AM, and workouts will go every half hour. Brunch party at UrbanpL8, 1082 Huff Road, to follow.
Gumby can't make it Sunday, so he did FGB on Friday.

"Man v. Food", from Outside Magazine. In this article the author, an endurance athlete, tries 8 diets over the course of a year. It seems the Paleo Diet for Athletes gave him the best biomarkers and lowest bodyfat, but he reported being tired and hungry on it. Post you thoughts on why.
